That was my first trip from New Delhi to Beijing. What a wonderful event in my life! I traveled between two capital cities of most populated countries in the world. Also it was my first trip abroad also first ever journey in flight. I think that was beginning of my dreams. My dream about China goes on and on! I have no further words to explain. During my each arrival and departure; unknowingly I became emotionally tearful.
I have traveled in different cities of China. From Chengdu city of Southwest China's Sichuan province to Shijiazhuang, Beijing to Qin-Huang dao, Shanghai etc. Traveling in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai is very interesting and enjoyable. It was the most memorable moments of my life; In particular, I remember the places such as Wang-Fu Street, Tiananmen Square, Tian-Tan (The Temple of Heaven), Great Wall at Badaling, Shanhaiguan etc. In my travel, I have seen different kinds of people and interacted with many of them. I was deeply touched with their kindness and support. I can say that every one of them is excellent. Each and every one is great to me. I like their respect towards their and other cultures and civilizations. I really miss many of them who helped me in difficult times and shared their ideas with me. To mention a few… the girl who helped me to find Chengdu railway station, the old man who helped to get down from train in Shijiazhuang, the hotel-assistant, who helped to find city map etc , etc.
I always think China is a dream place to cherish. There are many things to explore, not just travel. For a learner, China explores dreams to understand its civilization, long history, calligraphy, ancient medicine, music, food, art, and Thai-chi etc. For me, most of my dreams were realized after I landed in China. I don’t know what brought me to there…May be I am lucky. In fact, I was born in the year of dragon, so I think; this brought me to China and made me to realize my dreams!
I came to Shijiazhuang in 2003. I lived there for over 1 year. I was so lucky to be there, as it had historic touch with India. I felt so proud to be in such a city where stories of Chinese spirit of sacrifice and courage are remembered by everyone. In 1939, Indian doctor Dwarkanath Kotnis(Chinese name,柯棣华,Kē Dì Huá) arrived China to treat Chinese soldiers during the war and later he scarified his life. In order to cherish the memory of Dr. Kotnis, the Chinese government built a memorial hall for Dr. Kotnis in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, in 1976. I was deeply surprised with his braveness and also the love he received from Chinese people in those terrible years. I have visited Martyr’s Memorial Park in Shijiazhuang which is dedicated to him number of times. Each of my each visit, I felt that, I was part Chinese society and also I never felt that I was a stranger there.
Chinese always have dream to create harmonious society and always have positive attitude towards expatriates. I felt that Chinese are open, warm-hearted and friendly to foreigners. I never missed my homeland after staying there. It is all because of their greater understanding about this world and different cultures. Chinese people live in a big country with big vision, which always pushes them to think big and do big. They never worried about what language I speak or others speak. Their smile and positive attitude towards foreigners explains better than words. They always speak to the foreigners in the language of friendship and in the language of their heart.
I think China continue to remain a dreamland for many visitors around the world. China is a country with golden dreams with dragon power. I am sure; China has all the qualities to adjust itself to the changing world. I hope my dragon dreams will continue to flourish…
I will come and see you again! My dear Zhōngguó….
