St Andrews is committed to attracting the very best students, regardless of financial circumstances. Bursaries and scholarships are designed to provide assistance to help students support themselves during their time at university and also aim to reward academic excellence.
The following is an overview of taught postgraduate scholarships currently on offer. Please select where you normally live from the list below.
Funded by the University
The following scholarships are funded by the University of St Andrews and generous donations are made by alumni and friends of the University of St Andrews, charitable trusts and other organisations and companies.
Accommodation Award
For all new postgraduate students, based on financial need. This scholarship can only be used to reduce the cost of University accommodation.
Asfari Scholarship
For Syrian citizens (including Palestinians from Syria and Syrians who have been recently displaced and live in one of Syria’s neighbouring countries or Egypt) accepted onto relevant courses.
Carnegie-Cameron Bursaries
For students born in Scotland, of Scottish descent or who have been resident in Scotland for at least three years.
Chevening Scholarships
For students from eligible countries who are considered outstanding scholars with leadership potential.
Civil Society Leadership Awards (CSLA)
For students from eligible countries who demonstrate both academic and professional excellence who have been accepted on a relevant course.
Commonwealth Scholarships: Developing Countries
For students who are permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country and meet the application criteria.
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)
For students from developing Commonwealth countries accepted to study the MSc Sustainable Development.
Music Scholarships
For any current student at the university; based on musical merit.
Ransome Scholarship
For students from the USA and Canada who are academically qualified, well-rounded students who have demonstrated leadership skills.
Recent Graduate Discount
For postgraduate students who have graduated from the University of St Andrews in the last three years.
Said Foundation Scholarships
For students from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan or Palestine; for courses which will be of use to home country or the Middle East region.
Scotland's Saltire Scholarships
For students from Canada, China (including Hong Kong), India or USA; students must not have previously studied at a Scottish university.
St Andrews Education for Palestinian Students (STEPS)
For Palestinian students resident in the West Bank, Gaza or one of the camps in Lebanon, who have completed a first degree at a university in the West Bank or Gaza or Lebanon.
Thomas and Margaret Roddan Trust Bursary
For all new and current postgraduate students; based on financial need and academic excellence.
University Hall St Andrews Graduates' Association (UHSTAGA) Scholarship
To pay accommodation fees for a female postgraduate student living in University Hall.
Worsfold Otago Scholarship
For New Zealand students who have graduated from the University of Otago.
Offered by Academic Schools and Units
The following scholarships are offered by Academic Schools and Units within the University.
Choral and Organ Scholarships
Scholarships to fund participation in St Salvator’s Chapel Choir.
Music Centre scholarships
For students who have been accepted at the University and can demonstrate musical merit.
Professional Preparation Masters Award
A range of financial assistance for students studying Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices.
Saints Sports scholarships
Funding may be available to students who show exceptional abilities and potential in sport whilst studying at St Andrews.
School of Physics: MSc Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices: support
For students from Scotland and the EU (excluding England, Wales and Northern Ireland) studing the MSc Photonics.
School of History MLitt and PhD scholarships
A range of scholarships for students studying within the School of History.
School of Management International Scholarships Scheme
Scholarships for International students studying selected Masters courses in the School of Management.
School of Modern Languages Awards
A range of scholarships for students studying within the School of Modern Languages.
Sustainable Aquaculture Scholarship
For Scottish and EU students who have been accepted onto the MSc Sustainable Aquaculture by Distance Learning course.
External
The following scholarships are administered and funded outside the University of St Andrews but may be available to eligible students who wish to attend the University.
Aga Khan Foundation
For outstanding students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar or Mozambique who have no other means of financing their studies.
Beit Trust
For students who normally live in Malawi, Zambia or Zimbabwe.
Bolashak Scholarships
For students from Kazakhstan.
Canadian Federation of University Women Fellowships and Awards
For female students who normally live in Canada.
Charles Wallace Trusts
For students from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Burma/Myanmar.
Clan Donald Scholarship
For students from the USA who have applied to a Scottish university.
Crockett Scholarship for University Study
For students from the USA who have applied to a Scottish university.
Entrepreneur Scholarship Programme
For undergraduate and postgraduate students who can demonstrate academic excellence and entrepreneurial potential.
Fulbright Commission
For students from the USA who have applied to a UK university.
Georgia IEC Academic Scholarship
For graduate students from Georgia who commit to work in civil service.
Inlaks Scholarships
For Indian citizens; normally expected to hold a good first degree from a recognized university in India.
Jane M Klausman Women in Business Scholarship
For female students pursuing a business or business-related degree and who can demonstrate outstanding potential in the field.
Japan-Scotland Society Scholarship
For students from Japan willing to be active in the JSS after completion of their studies.
Marshall Scholarships
For American students who can demonstrate academic potential.
R Harper Brown Memorial Scholarship
For students from the USA, with a preference of students who reside in the Chicago area.
Russia Global Education Program (GEP)
For Russian Federation citizens seeking to undertake postgraduate studies.
Saint Andrew's Society of the State of New York
For students from the USA with Scottish heritage.
Saint Andrew's Society of Washington DC
For students from the USA with Scottish heritage.
SOCAR Scholarship
For students from Azerbaijan who intend to work for SOCAR after their studies abroad.
