Research programmes
Important dates and deadlines
For the majority of Schools there is no deadline on applying for research. However, the following Schools have specific deadlines each year:
School of Divinity – applications received by 15 January receive first consideration as a gathered field both for acceptance and for School scholarships; applications received after that date are considered on a rolling basis if and as places are available.
School of International Relations – deadline: 15 January.
For all other Schools or Departments, applications can be sent in any time throughout the academic year. However, it is important to remember that if you are applying for any scholarships or funding then the deadline for this may be early in the year.
Start dates
We strongly encourage students to begin their studies in September, but the start date for research study can be flexible. Your start date will be decided between yourself and your supervisor but you may indicate your preferred start date on the application. Start dates are the 27th of each month except for December and July.
Taught programmes
Start dates and application deadlines
The majority of taught Masters programmes will start in September of each year with the exception of some distance learning programmes.
Most programmes do not have a closing date, though an early application would be advisable. This is to allow sufficient time to process our decision and, importantly, to give you time to obtain visas, apply for scholarships and organise travel arrangements, if needed.
The following programmes have fixed closing dates each year:
MLitt International Political Theory: 15 May
MLitt International Security Studies: 31 March
MLitt Middle East, Caucasus and Central Asian Security Studies: 15 May
MLitt Peace and Conflict Studies: 15 May
MLitt Terrorism and Political Violence: 15 May
MSc Psychology (Conversion): 15 February
MSc Marine Mammal Science: 4 April
MLitt Bible and the Contemporary World (distance learning and residential - starting September 2015): 13 June
Bible and the Contemporary World (MLitt/PG Diploma/Modular - starting January 2016): 1 November
Decisions normally take around four to six weeks once all supporting documents and references have been received and the application is complete with the exception of the MSc Psychology (Conversion) and MSc Marine Mammal Science when decisions will be sent out after the closing date.
