1、University of Waterloo Electrical and Computer Engineering
This is the university’s largest academic department, with over 2,500 students and 86 full time faculty members. Aside from offering the two broad programs of electrical and computer engineering, three more interdisciplinary programs are available, including mechatronics engineering, nanotechnology engineering and software engineering. Research areas within this department include a variety of fields: “high voltage engineering” and “wireless technology” both look pretty awesome.

Though being a highly proficient school for all types of Engineering, the University of Waterloo is particularly well known for their strengths in computer science and computer engineering. The internationally recognized Software Engineering program includes two years of paid co-op work to ensure valuable experience before graduation. The program is also accredited by both the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and the Computer Science Accreditation Board, allowing access to both types of career options.

University of Toronto’s Chemical Engineering program is consistently ranked as one of the best chemical engineering programs in Canada, and amongst the top in the world. The program offers a wide range of research clusters for upper year students including Biomolecular and Biomedical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, Informatics, Pulp and Paper, Surface and Interface Engineering, and Sustainable Energy engineering. (Pretty much any discipline you can think of, if we're honest.) As a bonus, the Chemical Engineering program has a reputation for having a much more equal ratio of male and female students, in a typically male dominated field of study.
