The tuition fee you are charged will depend on whether you are classified as ‘home/EU’, ‘Channel Islands and Isle of Man’ or ‘overseas’. The rules on how you are classified are strictly defined by the UK Government. In general:
-home/EU: students who are settled and ordinarily resident in the UK, and EU nationals who are ordinarily resident in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the overseas territories for the three years prior to the start of the course
-Channel Islands and Isle of Man: students from the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, who are therefore within the British Isles, but outside the UK (with the exception of the BMBS in Medicine, where a different fee applies, Islands students are charged fees at the home/EU rate)
-overseas: students from other countries (there are exceptions, such as students who are temporarily outside the UK/EU, those with refugee status granted by the UK Government, and migrant workers).
Applicants with UK or other EU nationality should be aware that such nationality does not guarantee that you will be classed as a ‘home/EU’ student – you must also satisfy various residence requirements.
If your fee-status classification is unclear, we will send you a questionnaire to complete, so that your status can be determined by the University.
Fees for overseas students
The information for each degree listed at Undergraduate courses 2016 shows if the standard lower rate or the standard higher rate applies:
-Standard lower rate and foundation year: £14,800 per year (2016/17 fee)
-Standard higher rate: £18,300 per year (2016/17 fee)
-BM BS in Medicine: £27,405 per year (2015/16 fee. This will be updated once the 2016/17 fee is agreed with the University of Brighton.)
Note that fees increase on an annual basis.
Fee setting for overseas students remains the responsibility of individual institutions.
Students classified as ‘overseas’ are required to pay tuition fees at the overseas rate. Before registering as a student, you provide evidence of your ability to pay the fees and to support yourself financially.
The annual fees include registration, tuition and examination fees. They do not include items such as accommodation, extracurricular language tuition, use of the sports facilities, membership of clubs and societies, photocopying, and printing from computers.
Fees are due for payment before the start of the autumn term of each academic year of your course. You can pay in instalments by credit or debit card.
If a recognised sponsoring organisation is responsible for payment of your tuition fee, an award or sponsor letter acceptable to the University must be submitted before the start of your course.
Educational institutions, government bodies or corporate sponsors are acknowledged by the University as recognised sponsoring organisations.
If you are in any doubt as to whether you are a self-financing or a sponsored student, contact our Head of Fees and Income, Jude Batsford on [email protected]
All fees are liable to review and change without notice, and to increase each year over the duration of your course.
Students from outside the UK and eligible EU states will not normally be entitled to support for tuition fees or living costs from the UK Government.
