Qualifying for admission to Ryerson
The minimum grade requirement for admission consideration to a master's program is a 3.0/4.33 (B or equivalent) in the last two years of study. For doctoral studies, you must have achieved a minimum of 3.33/4.33 (B+ or equivalent) in your master’s program.
The Yeates School of Graduate Studies is committed to maintaining high quality graduate and professional programs and to offering admission to those applicants that are best qualified and most likely to succeed in these programs. Due to the competitive nature of our programs, it is not possible to offer admission to everyone who applies that meets the minimum entrance requirements for the program. All applications will be considered on an individual basis and subject to competition.

Aerospace Engineering
Masters Program Minimum Academic Requirements
Graduates with a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, a related Engineering field or Applied Science discipline from a recognized institution.
Minimum grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of 3.00/4.33 (B) for MEng and 3.33/4.33 (B+) for MASc in the last two years of study.
Architecture
Admission Requirements
You must hold a pre-professional undergraduate degree in architecture equivalent to the Ryerson Bachelor of Architectural Science, with a minimum B grade average overall in the last two years of study. College programs and degrees that are not part of a pre-professional architecture program are normally considered insufficient preparation for the program. We will consider applicants with non-standard backgrounds, provided they can demonstrate an overall competency in all areas of building design and construction beyond the experience level of a pre-professional degree. All applicants are required to provide a sophisticated portfolio demonstrating the necessary background to pursue Master’s-level work in architecture, as well as two letters of recommendation.
The Ryerson M.Arch. progam provides instruction in English. Applicants whose previous studies were in a language other than English are required to pass a test of English language proficiency. Applicants may demonstrate facility in English using one of the following methods:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)
Applicants may be required to attend an interview with the admissions committee or Program Director.
Biomedical Engineering
Master's Program (MEng, MASc)
Candidates applying to the Master's program in Biomedical Engineering need to have completed at least a four-year undergraduate degree in engineering, or a related field in the biomedical sciences (e.g. biology, biochemistry, physiology, immunology, genetics, etc.), from a recognized institution.
A minimum grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of 3.00/4.33 (B) for MEng and 3.33/4.33 (B+) for MASc in the last two years of study is required for admission consideration.
Biomedical Physics
Master of Science (MSc)
Students may be admitted to a MSc program in Physics in the field of Biomedical Physics from a range of undergraduate programs, including physics, biology, engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, or mathematics. Students may be expected to complete certain further undergraduate courses.
A minimum overall B average, with a minimum B+ average in the final half of an undergraduate program.
Completion of a relevant four-year undergraduate degree in Physics, Engineering, Engineering Physics or other related program from a recognized institution.
Two letters of reference are also required from former professors (one may be from a previous employer) familiar with the applicant's abilities.
Civil Engineering
Master's Program Minimum Academic Requirement
Graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, a related Engineering field or Applied Science discipline from a recognized institution
Minimum grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of 3.00/4.33 (B) for MEng and MASc in the last two years
Communication and Culture
MA Program: Full- or Part-time
Minimum Academic Requirements for the Master’s program (full- or part-time)
Minimum of a 4 year degree in a related discipline that provides some familiarity with cultural or social theory: social sciences, humanities, fine arts or related applied program such as media production or communication technology.
Minimum grade average of B+ or 3.33/4.33 in previous 2 years of coursework.
Evidence of a high level of undergraduate-level achievement in writing, and undergraduate training in either research or cultural production.
Demonstrated commitment and potential to develop advanced work in communication and culture.
Students whose first language is not English must have a minimum TOEFL score (see Admissions) to be considered qualified.
Computer Science
MSc Admissions Requirements
Must have achieved at least a 3.00 / 4.33 (B) average, or equivalent, in the last two years of study from a four-year undergraduate program in Computer Science or a similar program in a related field.
Provide two letters of recommendation from former postsecondary instructors.
Provide a statement of intent. Your statement should also explain your reasons for studying Computer Science, how your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the MSc program, and your career objectives.
Provide a statement of intent. Your statement should be approximately 500 words long and must include, in the first three lines: the names of any potential Supervisors or faculty members in the program with whom you might like to work; your proposed areas of research; any sources of funding that you hold or have applied for to support your graduate studies (scholarships, fellowships, grants, awards, self-funding, etc.).
Economics
MA Program Specific Admission Requirements
Have achieved a minimum of at least a 3.0/4.33 (B) average (or equivalent) in their last four semesters (or terms) of undergraduate study in a four-year honours program (or equivalent).
Demonstrate that they have the necessary background to pursue masters’ level graduate work in international economics and finance. Normally, this would be an undergraduate degree in economics or a commerce degree. The students should be familiar with the undergraduate course content of intermediate macro and microeconomic theory, econometrics, calculus and linear algebra, international economics and finance.
Provide two letters of recommendation. Students applying for the full-time program must provide letters of recommendation from former instructors (post-secondary level); while those applying for the part-time program may substitute one letter from their current employer for one of the academic references.
Provide a Statement of Interest. Your statment should be approximately 500 words long and include the following:
your reasons for graduate study in Economics;
the research interest(s) you may wish to pursue;
how your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the MA program; and
your career objectives and how the MA program relates to them.
Master of Business Administration
BBA & BComm Degrees: Completion of a four-year Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent business degree from a recognized institution – this exempts you from foundation courses.
Other Bachelor Degrees: Completion of a four-year bachelor degree from a recognized institution. Foundation courses will be required; exemptions are based on previous courses taken during an undergraduate degree.
Two letters of recommendation: one of which should be from a former instructor at the post-secondary level, and the other from a current or recent employer
A comprehensive resume: Minimum of two years full-time post-graduate work experience.
A statement of interest: Approximately 500 words outlining your reasons for graduate study, the research interest(s) you may wish to pursue in the MBA/MBA-MTI, how your previous studies and experience have prepared you for the MBA/MBA-MTI and your career objectives.
A minimum B average: 73% or above average in the final 2 years of university study, including post-graduate university programs.
A GMAT score: Last year's average was 625 and scores ranged from 550 to 740. GMAT scores are valid for five years after test examination date. Highest valid GMAT score will be used for consideration.
Master of Science in Management
Four-year Bachelor Degree: Please include all post secondary transcripts when submitting your application.
BBA & BComm Degrees: Completion of a of Business Administration, Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent business degree from a recognized institution may exempt you from foundation courses.
Other Bachelor Degrees: Completion of a four-year bachelor degree from a recognized institution. Foundation business courses may be required; exemptions are based on previous courses taken during your undergraduate degree.
Minimum B Average: 73% or above average in the final 2 years of university study, including post-graduate university programs.
Contact Information for Two Referrals: One referral should be from a former instructor at the post-secondary level and the other from a current or recent employer.
Master of Nursing
A Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or its equivalent
A minimum CGPA or equivalent of 3.00 (B) overall with 3.00 (B) average in the last two years or 20 graded courses of study.
Applied Mathematics (MSc)
Graduated from a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics or related fields involving adequate mathematical course work.
Achieved a minimum 3.0/4.33 (B or equivalent) averagein the last two years of study.
Social Work
A Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from an institution that meets the guidelines of the International Association of Schools of Social Work, or is accredited by a national body of accreditation.
If you do not have a BSW you do not qualify for our program.
Achieved a minimum 3.0/4.33 (B or equivalent) average in the last two years of study. Note: Given the strong competition, applicants will normally be required to present academic averages significantly higher than the minimum.
English language proficiency requirement
If you have not completed two or more years, full-time, at a Canadian university or a university at which English was the primary language of instruction, or have not completed a graduate degree at a university where English was the primary language of instruction, you will be required to provide certification of English language proficiency through one of the accepted examinations listed below. Scores are valid for two years from the test date.
It is important to understand that meeting the minimum English proficiency requirements does not guarantee admission. Programs may set additional requirements to these minimum standards.
