Imagine that during business school orientation, you are assigned to a three-person team. This is the team that you will work with on projects and assignments throughout the first semester. If you had the opportunity to select one (and only one) person to be on this team with you, whom would you select and why? This person may be living or deceased.
If I could select one person to work with for my first semester’s MBA assignments and projects, my choice would be one that most people would probably not understand or believe at first. I would choose the comedian/movie actor Jim Carrey, for a couple of different reasons.
The first reason is obvious – Jim Carrey is an incredibly funny person. I expect that the MBA program will be very strenuous and require an enormous amount of hard work. With a group partner like Mr. Carrey, I believe that he could offer (at the appropriate times of course) a little comic relief to relieve the tension involved with all of our hard work. His amazing facial expressions and tremendous comedic talent could allow us to relax and realize our full potential as a group.
The second reason is not so obvious – Mr. Carrey is an incredibly hard-working performer that spends much time perfecting his craft. Some people might believe that his only talent is acting silly and making too much money for it, but Jim Carrey is actually one of the best actors working in the movies today. It takes much more preparation and hard work to perform at the highest level as he has done over the past several years. His serious movie parts have shown that he can not only make people laugh, but also portray serious emotions and completely lose himself in a character, so that you forget that it is Jim Carrey that you are watching.
The MBA course is very important and meaningful to me and all of the studying that will be required will not be easy. I believe that having a group partner such as Jim Carrey would provide our group with the ability to not take things too seriously while at the same time providing us with an example of how proper preparation can make the difference between success and failure. With Jim Carrey as our group partner, we would be able to have fun while doing our assignments and projects to the very best of our abilities.
