  John Brown, an office worker, lives in Washington, He inherited(继承) $ 1,000, 000 when he was 23. He didn’t feel happy at all. His college friends were looking for their first jobs, but he didn’t have to. John decided to keep living a simple life like everyone else.   John sent for a doctor because his wife was ill. He called the doctor and made sure they would meet at five. He arrived at the doctor's at twenty to five. He thought, "It's a little bit earlier. I'll wait for a moment. It's good to keep the time."

  Then he stopped his car in front of the doctor's. He looked around and saw a noisy square(广场)not far from here. He went there and sat down on a chair to enjoy the last light of afternoon sun and make himself quiet. He saw some children playing and some women talking to each other happily.

以智慧和锋利的话锋着称,在波士顿大学长期服务而且极具争议性的前校长约翰·西尔伯9月27日因肾功能衰竭病逝,享年86岁。西尔伯先生于1971年被任命为波士顿大学的校长,在位期间超过4分之1个世纪。在1996年,他成为该大学的第一任荣誉校长(chancellor),在位直到2003年。西尔伯先生将波士顿大学由一个陷入困境的市区通勤大学改造成为宿舍林立、科研名声蒸蒸日上的校园大学。一路上,对他直言不讳的风格,褒贬参半甚至有人认为他有些令人生畏。
在麻省理工学院任教多年,2005年来到波士顿大学的现任校长罗伯特‧布朗博士,在一份追悼书面声明中,并没有试图粉饰西尔伯先生毁誉参半的名声。布朗先生说:「有一些人对他的坦率吹毛求疵,有一些人对他的某些政策或决定不表同意,但谁也不能否认约翰留下的传奇。在决策过程中,他是着名的刚直不阿,毫不犹豫,他在波士顿大学留下了不可磨灭的印记,并札下深厚基础指引我们现在继续努力的方向。」
